A place you'll want to stay longer.

Enjoying a fabulous location in the Winkelmatten district of Zermatt, Hotel Matthiol is situated in an elegant new building, and offers magnificent views of the Gornergrat and the Matterhorn. This boutique property offers fantastic accommodation, fine cuisine, a classic bar, and unique spa facilities in a magnificent mountain setting. The city Zermatt is car-free, so cars need to be parked in Täsch and then you jump on the train to Zermatt or get picked up by the hotel. From Zermatt train station you can either walk to the hotel (25 min), take the free shuttlebus, or book a pick-up from the hotel.

This 4-star hotel is shaped for and by travellers and honestly: It leaves nothing to be desired. And the best part, you are right next to nature.

R O N D A ’ S R A T I N G S

Where to go: Right outside the hotel, breathtaking nature and small paths are waiting to be explored for quiet morning walks or long hikes. It is one of the most beautiful places to walk your dog overlooking Matterhorn.

Allowed areas: Dogs are literally welcome everywhere in the hotel. The only restriction is, that the dogs are not allowed in the Spa ares which makes a lot of sense. They are even welcome in the restaurants.

Size n’ shape: No limitations on size or numbers, but our recommendation is maximum 2 dogs.

Room amenities: A delicious blanket and bowls are prepared in your room.

Accommodation fee: Dogs can stay at Matthiol Boutique Hotel for 20€ per night.

Dog loving or friendly? Definitely a dog loving hotel. Our Contributor stayed with her 2 Labradors - they felt so welcome, and the staff just loved the dogs!

If you ask us: Make sure your dog is trained, well behaved, calm and travel-savvy when bring him/her to a hotel stay. For the stress-free experience.

Last tip: To avoid unpleasant surprises for both your dog and the hotel staff, always use the “Do not disturb” sign when leaving your dog alone in the room, even for 5 minutes.

Filet et Fils is one of the hotels two restaurants. A cosy restaurant with a menu is inspired by the surroundings — all the way from the traditional ways of mountain cooking to the modern cuisine of current-day Zermatt.

Stafelalp is a quite legendary mountain restaurant located 2.200 metres under the north face of the Matterhorn. Here they are serving classic swiss mountain food with a fusion twist, aiming to make the traditional ways of cooking exciting again. Come for the view. Stay for the food and the drinks.

The activities are almost endless here. Zermatt is the perfect place for a mountain holiday. Breathtaking nature, sky-scraping peaks, hiking trails, mountain climbing, thrilling (or just plain beautiful) biking routes or skiing. The hotel staff will know exactly where to go and what to do, and they will guide you towards all the good stuff or help you arrange a trip.

The Spa is a unique and private spa experience for the guests of the Matthiol Boutique Hotel. Here, you’ll embark on a revitalising and cleansing journey and emerge completely refreshed and rejuvenated. Start in the steam room, sit back in the infrared seats, walk underneath the rainshower walk or look at the stars in the outdoor whirlpool.
